Free Movie Screening: Girl Rising

PG&E’s Women’s Network and W-STEM network, and their community sponsor Spark, are honored to be screening Girl Rising From Academy Award-nominated director Richard E. Robbins, Girl Rising journeys around the globe to witness the strength of the human spirit and the power of education to change the world. Viewers get to know nine unforgettable girls living in the developing world: ordinary girls who confront tremendous challenges and overcome nearly impossible odds to pursue their dreams. This event also includes time for networking and a post-film discussion.

Over There: Journalists and The War Zone

This panel examines the role of journalists covering wars from WWI and WWII, through the Vietnam and Iraqi wars, up to our present time. How has the role of the journalist and journalism changed over the past 100 years– and what is the future? What do journalist risk and why. How can the truth be told with the threat of being assassinated – or imprisoned on foreign soil? Is it worth risking your life?
